Our vibrant spiritual community distinguishes us from every other treatment center. Through this community of Jewish study and practice, meditation, prayer, and discussion, residents of all faiths transition from behavior patterns of perfectionism, failure, isolation and entitlement, to life goals of progress, accountability, and gratitude.

Our individualized, long-term continuum of care helps people through difficult life transitions—employment, relationships, financial responsibility, and independent living. Our Work Therapy Internship and Externship Programs provide work experience in a safe, protected setting as people struggle to find their passion and purpose. An active alumni group and synagogue community keep people connected long after they leave treatment.

Our integrative treatment approach consists of three main components: addiction counseling, spiritual counseling & therapy.

Counseling

Each resident receives an addiction counselor who provides individualized, compassionate care and daily case management.

Counselors provide new residents with their daily program schedules, ensure that residents attend daily 12 step meetings, liaise with other members of the treatment team as well as the family program, and provide crisis management if needed.

Counselors run daily home-groups with all members of their caseload, as well as more specialized groups such as psychoeducation, relapse prevention, and Big Book studies.

THERAPY

Each Beit T’Shuvah resident receives an individual therapist. Individual therapists include staff psychologists, social workers and marriage and family counselors; psychology, social work and marriage and family counselor interns/trainees and volunteer licensed therapists from the larger community. They typically see clients for one hour per week, more if clinically indicated. All therapists in training are supervised individually and in groups by senior therapists. Individual therapists help residents explore and reweave the pieces of their lives, making new sense of old pieces, building new muscles, experiencing, understanding, and integrating their feelings, biographies, and relationships. Therapists help clients become more integrated and return to a life of passion and purpose.

Spiritual Counseling

Addiction isn’t just a physical or emotional disease—at the core, addiction is a spiritual issue. Rooted in the wisdom of the Jewish tradition, clients are provided a spiritual counselor on their treatment team to address his or her “hole in the soul.” Spiritual counselors—including experienced rabbis, skilled Jewish educators, and promising interns from local rabbinical seminaries—bring their own spiritual journeys into the room. In each session, the spiritual counselor shares texts, practices, and resources from the Jewish tradition.The spiritual counselor and client discuss and interpret these texts, allowing them to outline a path for living well. Clients connect on a personal level with the spiritual counselor, while gaining insight and guidance for their own lives.

This strong focus on spirituality and relationship building make spiritual counseling one of the most unique and healing aspects of our program.
